San Diego's Best Mexican Restaurants

***** I'm still getting this list put together. I know I don't have some of the best places yet. I'm working on it. ******

This is just my opinion, and trying to find "the best" Mexican food in a metro area this size is crazy. And keep in mind this list is biased towards authentic Mexican rather than Americanized versions. But some folks just want the short version - "Where should I go?" Here's my answer. I'm sure others will disagree with some of these choices, and that's fine. But, in my opinion, these are the places to go if you want the best Mexican food in San Diego.

Super Cocina - Home style. Menu changes daily.
Mama Tesa - Real Mexican food in a gringo setting.
Tacos El Gordo - A bit of TJ. The good bit.
Tacos El Paisa - Street tacos done right.
Marisco's German Taco Truck 3 - Seafood tacos from heaven.
El Comal - Deep menu. Authentic Mexican dishes.
Candelas Restaurant - Best fancy dining Mexican food.

Some of my other favorites -

El Cuervo Taco Shop - My favorite "hole in the wall" taco shop.
TJ Oyster Bar - Delicious seafood tacos and ceviche.
Asada Taco Shop - My favorite fish taco.
Cockteleria La Playita - My favorite ceviche. Get the house ceviche tostada.
Las Cuatro Milpas - Old school San Diego Mexican. Get the chorizo beans and rice.
Ranas Mexico City Cuisine - My east county favorite. Try the entries and chef selections.
La Fachada - My favorite carnitas. Really good tacos.
Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop - Gourmet tacos. Outside the box.
