Bottomline - Great street tacos in a truck setting.

There is an indoor section of this place next to the truck, but I never make it that far. So I have no idea whether they have a different menu in there. I'll make a point of trying that out and edit the review. But.... what I have heard is that you order the non-taco items inside, then go outside to grab a seat and they'll bring your food out.

For some reason in San Diego the "taco trucks" have a) the best tacos, and b) trucks that aren'y really trucks. The main reason I mention #b is that the trucks are pretty permanant with fences around them, tented seating, and associated buildings with bathrooms, etc. I suspect there is some reason related to business regulations. So don't hesitate to try these just because it looks like a lunch truck. It's a real taco shop.

At La Fachada the main draw is the carnitas. Great flavor, crunchy edges, juicy middle. The other stuff is good too, but the carnitas is what most people rave about. I will say I don't think the pollo asada tacos are very good.

These are the small street style tacos, so I'd suggest getting at least three. The tortillas are fresh and quite good. The service is very friendly.

Notice the grill with the onions and a pot of beans. Those come free with your order, so grab what you want. I also thought the salsa bar was very good, especially the onions and habenaro which I don't see often.

You may be put off by the neighborhood, and parking is very limited. So unless you're from around here you'll likely have to park on the street and walk a block or so in a part of town you'd probably avoid after dark. I feel comfortable doing that, but it's worth mentioning.

There is nothing fancy here. Just really good tacos. But for me that is enough.

Tourist advice - If I was a tourist here I would not feel comfortable going to a strange city in a rental car with a map I printed off the Internet and then driving around this area of San Diego. It's not what I would call a "bad neighborhood", but it's certainly not touristy. I am often the only non-Latino eating here. Not saying you shouldn't go, just making sure you understand where you're headed. Having said that, I have *always* felt welcome here and gotten great service.

I haven't tried La Fachado,

I haven't tried La Fachado, but I don't think you can say you've had the best carnitas until you've tried Los Quatros Milpas. Check out my post at http://sandiegosbestbites.blogspot.com/2009/11/best-carnitas-tacos-in-sa... for more info.
